How I met the client brief.
The client brief asked me to produce a contribution to a
sixth form media exhibition which included the themes of inclusion and
community. I chose to produce a magazine front cover and double page spread
called clubsoda. Along with the front cover and double page spread I produced
many pre-production materials which if the magazine would be released to the
public would be vital to the marketing, distribution, legal and ethical aspects
of the release.
One point on the brief which I carefully followed was that
all content produced must be original and created by myself. I have displayed
this in many forms.
One example of this is my front cover. I shot photos for
my front cover in a lighting studio at my friend’s home. Examples of this can
be seen on my front cover and the second page of my double page spread.
Another example of when I used original content was when I
produced my survey. 30 people answered my survey and it can be seen on my blog
as “M1 – survey results”. I produced 8 questions for the survey and then
created a slide share exhibiting my findings with explanations for each
question.
A third example of when I used original content for my magazine
is when I produced my logo. I spent time researching a variety of magazine
logos and experimenting with many ideas which can be seen on “P3 – clubsoda.
logo designs”. I decided on a logo which I thought suited the colour scheme of
the magazine and looked most professional.
The client brief states that I must include one of the
two themes that have been asked of. I decided to do community and I picked a
local DJ named Aoife Connell. I interviewed her and wrote an article on her
story so far. This links with the theme of community as Aoife has been playing
events around the local area and explains how she entered the music business.
When producing the actual content and the pre-production
materials for my magazine, I saved many of my pictures as Jpeg files as they
were easy to put onto specific software’s such as Word, PowerPoint and Photoshop.
Then from the files I would transfer them onto the blog.
When producing the pictures for my magazine cover, I used
specific equipment which I thought would make the pictures look as professional
as possible. I used a tripod floor lamp along with the tripod to hold my Canon
DSLR camera. The benefit of using the tripod floor lamp is that it provides a
bright and clear environment when creating the subject photos.
A big part of the production of the magazine photos was
the use of Photoshop. I used Photoshop to create the magazine cover. One
benefit of using Photoshop is that is helps removes imperfection in specific
photos making them look more professional. Another benefit of the Photoshop
software is that you can easily import pictures and the software is easy to
navigate. It also shows you your work in a neat and orderly way on the screen.
